About Bad Times

I’m Mads and I’ve been single handedly running Bad Times Designs in the southeast of England since 2020. I started off with a small collection of handmade polymer clay earrings and I found the art of chainmail in the summer of 2022. Chainmail is a craft that just clicks with me and it has allowed me to express my creative ideas in ways I never could. I taught myself how to weave using YouTube tutorials, reverse engineering, and playing around with rings until something worked.

This shop has been my full time job since July of 2022. Every single piece of jewellery is made and packed by my own two hands, as well as doing all of the admin, photography, social media and procurement. It's been a struggle at times, especially with the current state of the world, but I've loved every second. I'm so grateful to be able to make art as my living!

My mission

I'm passionate about making jewellery that is of the highest quality possible without breaking the bank. Every detail is considered, even down to the orientation of the BTD tag on the end of an extender chain. I also want to ensure that I am only putting good out into the world, not just with my art but with my packaging too. BTD is a safe space for LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse individuals. I myself am an autistic queer person and have always believed that we should wear whatever we want, regardless of gender, trends or expectations. I don’t cater for a specific demographic, instead I encourage people of all ages, genders and walks of life to wear what they want to wear. If that happens to be my art then I'm super happy!
