Care Info
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel jewellery is durable, rust-resistant and hypoallergenic. We generally use 304 stainless steel, with some 316L surgical steel elements. This material is generally safe for those with allergies to metals, however it does contain low levels of non-leeching nickel so those with severe allergies may still experience a reaction. Earrings should be removed on a regular basis and cleaned. Stainless steel pieces can be worn in water and will withstand sweat. Contact with chemicals should be avoided. Polish with a soft cloth to regain shine.
Chainmail pieces with thicker rings are very strong, but to ensure longevity, please avoid putting under extreme conditions. Jewellery with chains (i.e. NORTH necklace, ORION necklace) are prone to tangling if not handled with care. You can use the BTD card the item arrived on to keep it tidy while not wearing.
If your product is damaged through negligence (i.e. not following the above guidelines) we cannot be held responsible. The materials used in each design are noted on the item listing page. If you have any questions about materials or care for pieces you own or are looking to purchase, feel free to drop us an email.
18k/24k Gold/Sterling Silver/Rhodium Plated Jewellery
Precious metals should be gently polished every few months to keep its shine. Please avoid scratching or denting the jewellery as this can erode the plating. Precious metals are splash-proof but prolonged contact or submersion should be avoided. Please do not put this jewellery under stress or tension as this may damage or break the jewellery.
Avoid contact with oils & perfumes and store in a cool dry place when not wearing. The plating will degrade over time so proper care is essential to prolong the life of your Gold, Silver or Rhodium jewellery.

Pearls and Semi-Precious Gems
Some of our premium jewellery is adorned with pearls and other semi-precious gems. As these are natural stones they may have indents, cavities, scratches, or differences in colour and texture. We recommend that jewellery containing semi-precious stones is worn sparingly to ensure its longevity.
Avoid contact with water, oils & chemicals and do not drop, hit or scratch the stones. Handle with care and always store securely away from humidity.

Metal Alloy Jewellery
Although we try to use Stainless Steel for all of our jewellery, some elements are made of metal alloys, i.e. the bat of the DESMODA Necklace, the skulls and pins of RAVEN Collar Pins, some spring gate o-rings and clasps.
These items of jewellery should be stored in a dry place while not wearing and contact with water/oils should be avoided. The piece may dull over time if exposed to too much moisture.

Titanium Jewellery
We offer implant grade Titanium (Ti-6AL4V-ELi ASTM F-136) fixings as an upgrade for earrings. This metal is safe for those with metal allergies. Titanium needs very little care; it can be wiped off with a soft cloth to remove any residue.

Brass Jewellery Elements
We don't like to use brass in our jewellery very often as it's prone to tarnishing, however some small elements of our metal jewellery are made from brass or coated brass. Some crystal pendants are in a brass setting and may tarnish with prolonged contact with skin, oils and perfumes. Some of our Sterling Silver and 18k Gold hoops have a brass base so may become tarnished over time.
We would not recommend buying these earrings if you are sensitive or allergic to brass, copper or zinc. If your ear piercing placement means that earrings sit against your neck, items with brass elements may tarnish quicker than usual.

Polymer Clay Jewellery (discontinued)
Polymer clay is very durable and will last for a long time if cared for properly. The earring studs are affixed with liquid clay or resin, which bond to the base for an extra strong hold. Studs, hooks and hoops are made from 304 Stainless Steel unless noted otherwise. 304 Stainless Steel is generally safe for those with allergies to metals, however it does contain low levels of non-leeching nickel so those with severe allergies may still experience a reaction.
Polymer clay is flexible but shouldn’t be intentionally stressed. Avoid prolonged exposure to cold or hot environments as this can make our accessories too brittle or too malleable (respectively). Avoid contact with perfumes, oils, alcohols and acetone and avoid touching the clay too much with sweaty hands as this may damage the product. It’s particularly important to follow these guidelines if your Bad Times accessories have a printed surface, e.g. CRYPT studs.

Jesmonite Homewares (discontinued)
All of our jesmonite products are sealed with splash-proof sealant at a minimum. These products are resistant to light contact with water but should not be submerged as this may damage their integrity. Try not to leave these items in damp environments for too long.
Some items are sealed with a waterproof sealant, meaning they will repel water, making them safer for use in bathrooms. kitchens and for plants. Each item’s sealant status is declared in their listing descriptions. We cannot guarantee that these products are food-safe so should not be used to store or display food (at least not with direct contact).
Jesmonite is very durable and will last if cared for. Our products should survive minor drops and knocks, however thinner and more delicate pieces will be more likely to break so take extra care. Avoid contact with oils and clean with a damp cloth if needed.
