SMOTHER Pearl and Moss Agate Necklace

This necklace was inspired by a plant I saw while on an evening walk. I came across a tall nettle plant that had a flowering vine wrapped all the way to the top. I thought it was beautiful how something so delicate can coexist with something so harmful, so I set out to make a necklace with two woven strands: a simple chainmail core and a string of moss agate beads and petal pearls to emulate the vine and flowers.

However, after posting the necklace on social media, this piece took on another meaning. The flowering vine was bindweed (Convolvulaceae), a highly invasive plant that all gardeners dread to see. The roles I initially saw in the wild are flipped. The dainty unassuming flower suffocates everything around it, hence the apt name SMOTHER.

This necklace is handmade from solid stainless steel, moss agate and freshwater pearls. SMOTHER is approximately 45cm with a 5cm extender chain and must be handled and worn with care to ensure the longevity of the pearls and to avoid damaging the strand of beads. The two strands of the necklace move independently of each other, allowing you to set the twists and pearls where you please.

As this necklace is handmade there may be slight variations in appearance. Every effort is made to ensure the pictures are representative of the items, however lighting and screen quality may distort the appearance of the pieces. As pearls and moss agate are natural stones, there may be slight indentations, cavities and/or differences in colour.
